Hawaii WBGT rules for high school sports.

Hawaii lets each school use its WBGT chart or heat-index chart. PracticeCast shows the WBGT bands, while the school must use an allowed measurement and its selected chart.

What coaches need to know

  • HHSAA requires a 14-calendar-day heat-acclimatization period for all student-athletes.
  • Under 82°F WBGT: normal activity with at least three 3-minute rest breaks each hour.
  • 82.0–86.9°F WBGT: use discretion and provide at least three 4-minute rest breaks each hour.
  • 87.0–89.9°F WBGT: maximum 2-hour practice, football equipment restrictions, and four 4-minute breaks each hour.
  • 90.0–92.0°F WBGT: maximum 1-hour practice, no protective equipment or conditioning, and 20 total minutes of rest.
  • Above 92.0°F WBGT: no outdoor workouts.
