Current 2026 resources · last source review

Indiana heat rules for high school sports.

Indiana's current IHSAA public resources provide a heat-index chart and NFHS acclimatization guidance, but do not publish a statewide operational action table. Follow your school corporation's adopted plan.

What coaches need to know

  • IHSAA publishes a National Weather Service heat-index calculator and an Indiana heat-index chart.
  • The chart recommends monitoring forecasts, frequent shaded breaks, avoiding prolonged exertion, and drinking water often.
  • Its risk legend describes caution at 80–90°F, extreme caution at 91–105°F, danger at 106–129°F, and extreme danger at 130°F or higher.
  • IHSAA also publishes NFHS heat-acclimatization guidance and heat-illness recognition resources.
  • The public resources do not assign statewide practice modifications to those risk categories, so PracticeCast does not invent operational instructions.
No statewide numeric table is shown. The public source provides guidance without one complete operational action table, so PracticeCast does not invent thresholds.
