Rhode Island's current rules require repeated practice-site WBGT checks near the Category 1 trigger and permit the OSAA geographic heat index when a WBGT instrument is unavailable.
What coaches need to know
- Rhode Island is assigned to WBGT Category 1.
- A scientifically approved WBGT instrument must be used at practice when conditions are within 5–10°F of the 76.1°F green threshold.
- Readings should begin 30 minutes before practice and repeat at least every 30 minutes.
- If a WBGT instrument is unavailable, the rules permit the OSAA geographic heat-index tool for the approximate activity location.
