Utah heat rules for high school sports.
Utah's July 2026 sports-medicine handbook requires a 14-day preseason acclimatization plan and staged practice limits. It does not publish environmental forecast bands.
What coaches need to know
- All student-athletes should follow the initial 14 consecutive days of preseason heat acclimatization, including late arrivals.
- Days 1–5 allow no more than one practice per day; a practice may not exceed 3 hours.
- Days 1–2 permit helmets only where applicable; days 3–5 permit helmets and shoulder pads; full equipment and contact may begin on day 6.
- Two practices after day 5 must be separated by at least 3 continuous hours in a cool environment, and total activity may not exceed 5 hours.
- The handbook strongly recommends an athletic trainer on site before, during, and after preseason practices.
No statewide numeric table is shown. The public source provides guidance without one complete operational action table, so PracticeCast does not invent thresholds.
