West Virginia WBGT rules for high school sports.

West Virginia requires an on-site WBGT device at the start and every 30 minutes. PracticeCast shows the official bands as a planning preview until that reading is taken.

What coaches need to know

  • Under 82°F WBGT: normal activity with at least three 3-minute rest breaks each hour.
  • 82.0–86.9°F: use discretion and provide at least three 4-minute breaks each hour.
  • 87.0–89.9°F: maximum 2-hour practice, four rest breaks each hour, and protective-equipment limits.
  • 90.0–92.0°F: maximum 1-hour practice, 20 total minutes of rest, and no conditioning.
  • Above 92.0°F: no outdoor practices or contests.

  • Restrict protective equipment for collision sports.
WBGT 90°–92°Limit practice to 1 hour; no conditioning
  • Limit practice to 1 hour.
  • Provide 20 total minutes of rest during the hour.
  • Do not conduct conditioning activities.
  • Remove protective equipment as directed by the official policy.
